September 17 Workday

Bruce touches up the paint before we lay the decking

Bruce grades the Tunnel Yard

The Redwood Canyon Tunnel was covered with dirt this week. Bill’s and Bruce’s years + hours of planning left us with a very easy 5:1 slope of the big hill. It’s actually quite easy to walk up and down the hill.

Dee, Matt, Dustin, & Ken were led on training exercise around the right-of-way by Bob.

Russ updated our track map to include all work completed in the last year. It also includes Kevin’s concept drawings for Rabbit Flat, Caboose Loop, and the Tunnel yard. Kevin, Russ, Bob, and Bill worked on a few passes to get the map in great shape. I must say it is much easier to update the map than it is to build bridges, move all that dirt, and layout track. Stay tuned for information on purchasing your own copy of the map. We will be selling a small map for $15 (30”x22”) and a large map for $20 (43”x31”). We sent the files out for a test printing and are waiting to see the results. Let Bob Silverstein know if you are interested in a paper map, which size, and how many.

Dustin and Matt began some long overdue maintenance on the Alpine route. The track needs to made safe for full passenger loads, the K-36, and our other big steamers. Ballasting and leveling will be completed once many rotten ties are replaced.

Kevin H worked on switches whilst Kevin W worked on track panels.

Russ is working on signs for the Lumber Camp area.
